Breakin The Law some more...

Ray did an amazing last-minute job with my cd case insert. I picked those up as well as my business cards today. It took me quite some time to figure out how to use wavelab and chop up my set into tracks but I managed to get it all done..and with some time to spare to tell you all about it.

Here's what my business card looks like:

My scanner just doesn't do them justice. They're actually fuscia to match the website and the insert.

Anyways, I'm heading out to make some contacts in Hong Kong now. I've been slavedriving myself this whole week to get stuff finished before I left and I did it!

Success!

I want to take this opportunity to thank first and foremost DJ Sugar Ray for helping me out with absolutely everything. He's been the backbone of everything I do and have. I also want to thank Rob for helping me out with my pictures and always being so supportive. You guys rock! (Not much of an acceptance speach, but I'll revise it when I'm actually nominated...)

Wish me Luck!

I'm out!

Breakin the Law

So I'm procrastinating. I figured it's going to be an all-nighter anyways.

The recording turned out decent. Finally, a set I can title and slap my name on.

I've decided to name the CD 'Breakin the Law'. I thought it seemd appropriate.

Here's the tracklisting for this 1hr set:
  1. Grand Def Audio - Get Ya Back Up
  2. Jay Cunning + Smithmonger - Never Stop
  3. Urban J - Universal Dimension
  4. Unknown - Dominator (CNM Remix)
  5. Aquasky - Direct Hit (O5/Alive mix)
  6. Freestylers - Push Up (Plump DJ’s Remix)
  7. Stanton Warriors - Pop Ya Cork
  8. Myagi - Make it Loud (Steelzawheelz Remix)
  9. Sgt. Rock - Are you Ready? (Simon Paul remix)
  10. Simon Paul - One Dollar Disco
  11. DJ Love - Underground Funk (Original 1999 mix)
  12. Infekto – The Real Funk (Boogie Army Remix)
  13. Unknown - Booted Out
  14. Soho Jo - I like Synthesizers (Friendly & Soho Jo’s reshuffle)
  15. Stanton Warriers - Blue
  16. Soho Jo - I like to Dance (PFN Remix)
  17. DJ Assault - G-String
  18. EZ-Posse – Everything Begins With an…
  19. DJ Fagan - Heavy Drumbase
  20. Drumattic Twins - The Flunk
  21. The Sneaky Pimps - Gonna be Big

I'm cutting it into tracks tonight. Haven't done this before so I imagine it will be a LONG night.

Now that the CD is recorded, I have to get the CD labels and case inserts printed. 25 hours left and counting. Can I do it?

2 Day CD

I have 2 more days to put together a CD. I'm recording tonight. My last chance to record before I go to Hong Kong, otherwise I've failed. Am I stressed about it? Most definately.

Friday, I have the task of printing the jewel case inserts as well as the CD labels. Provided I actually have a demo CD by then.

I think I'm just being too hard on myself. I want so badly for everything to be perfect when I really don't have the time for that before I leave. I guess I'll have to make do with what I've got.

I'm kicking myself for not recording my set last night at Spotlight. It would've made a perfect demo. I was really happy with the set considering I made it up as I went. I'll have to remember that for next time.

Anyways, I'm not sure if I'll have internet access while I'm in HK so if I have time to post one last update before I head out I most definately will. Otherwise...

Keep it honest,

Keep it real,

See you on the flip!

DJ Sugar Ray Brown

I must stress the fact that I owe absolutely EVERYTHING to DJ Sugar Ray Brown. Everything to do with my DJing career that is.

After a huge all-you-can-eat sushi meal, while explaining how everything is falling behind, Ray's agreed to help me put together a temporary business card and website. Just so that I have a DJ identity to bring with me to Hong Kong.

As of tomorrow morning I'll have business cards ordered and a temporary website up. All thanks to Ray.

To top it all off, he wouldn't even let me pay for his meal. Leave it to the 'old man' to be difficult. (Haha, sorry man...had to) I'll have to get him some super dope records from Hong Kong.

Other than myself, nobody wants me to succeed more than Ray does. He also believes in me more than anyone else does.

He's my mentor, my advisor, my saving grace, and my best friend.

I love you Ray!

BTW I play this Wednesday, February 15th at Spotlight from 11-12. My last set until I go on vacation. Hope to see you all out!

Premature Lust...

I had a conversation about the possibility of being a lesbian with Simon yesterday. He right away changed his name on MSN to "Wendys a fake lesbian". So typical of him to challenge everything I say.

It just so happens that when you have a name like that, questions are bound to arise.

I received an e-mail later on that day from Simon. Subject line said "You might be flattered or you might be offended". I was definately amused.

Here goes...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wendy,

I think you, as a superstar DJ, now have your first hardcore fan.
Remember that 14 year old boy who was/is going to come surfing with us?
Well, he's on my MSN, and this morning he asked:

Yo, who's Wendy?

The rest of the conversation went as follows:

is she hott ? oh maybe is any good at surfing?

Hahah, ya, not bad.
http://djwendylaw.blogspot.com/ this is wendy
anyay, I gotta get to school.

shes a hard core chinses women. dammmmmmmmmmm!
k peace get who # plz lmfoa

Hahhaha, Ill tell her your interested.

===========================================

This evening when I got home, I noticed that he had a peculiar picture drawn on his MSN.
I asked:

Is that a picture of you and wendy?

lol yea
Yeaaaaaaaaaa!
heres one

OMG!

=========================================

See, Lesbianism does sell, at least to 14 year old boys. Perhaps you might consider DJ ing all ages events.

Anyway, I thought this was hilarious. I hope you think that he's as funny as I do.

Simon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the picture Simon was referring to.

I haven't had such a good laugh in a while. So whoever you are little surfer dude. You definately made my day.

Hahahahaha.....

I Jumped the Gun...

I was so excited about having my name on a flyer that I didn't even notice an error in my info. The website listed under my name is wendylaw.com instead of the correct, not-yet-finished site djwendylaw.com. As you can see, she's a cellist...not a DJ.

She is Asian however, so I guess we could be easily mistaken for eachother. I mean...we all look alike anyways....

Okay, bad joke that I've been using for WAY too long. But to be fair, Rob gave me the idea...

Spotlight Flyer

It's official now. I'm a DJ. A resident DJ.

I'm trying to get my pic changed however. I'm not too keen on the one they chose. I would rather have this one:

But I guess I can't get picky now. MY NAME IS ON A FLYER...YAY!

Well, technically my name was on the Pure Breaks Party flyer back in May but I was only hosting the event. This time it's official.

So here's the beginning of (I hope I hope I hope) a repertoire of flyers which will bear the name Wendy Law.

I'll be sure to keep multiple copies of each and every one, just so that I can send them to all the people who didn't believe in me with a small "I told you so" type of note stating, "LOOK AT ME NOW, BYOTCH!!" Hahahaha, one can only hope that dreams come true...

P.S. I'm only half joking about the attached note. I would be a lot nicer IF (HUGE if) I ever did end up doing such a mundane thing...

Ultraspin Nine-10 Hours of Hardcore Dancing!

The party on Saturday night was phenominal. I have never danced for so long in my life! The music was pounding and the croud was great! The only thing that disappointed me was that the breaks/jungle/tribal room didn't open up to the public until 4:00am. So therefore I didn't really get to dance to any breakbeats at all that night.

Oh well, it just might give me some incentive to hit up next weekends party Together as One at the Docks. There's going to be an all night breaks room with some of my favorite djs playing. Any takers wanna come with?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll be playing again at Spotlight on February 15th, right before I leave for Hong Kong on the 18th. My set time is still unknown, but I imagine it'll be around 11 or 12 again. I'll definately post the time when I know for sure. I'm hoping more people show up this time. The flyer for the night should be done soon.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll be working on my website today and tomorrow. If everything goes smoothly I'll have it finished by the end of this week.

My business card design is definately going to be finished by the end of this week so I'll have those printed soon enough.

I'll be recording again this weekend. It'll be one of my last chances to get a demo cd finished before I go to Hong Kong. I hope it works out this time. I hope, I hope, I hope...

12 more days and counting to get everything finished. I can definately do this.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other than that I hope everyone has a great week. I'll be sure to keep you all posted on my projects and whereabouts.

Ciao for now,

Wen

The Forgettable Set

I did end up playing last night at Spotlight from 11:30-12:30.

For some ridiculous reason I felt the need to get drunk last night. After chugging 2 glasses of red wine (which I would definately NOT recommend to anyone) and 3 beers, I was completely hammered. The typical Asian lightweight. I even tripped over myself on my way up to the dj booth for my set. Soooo smooth Wendy...

The set was a blur to me. I'm just glad I put together a set before I started drinking, otherwise I'm not sure I would've had the mental capacity to improvise. I'm pretty sure my set went alright. Nobody told me otherwise.

I just wanted to go out there and have a good time last night, and that's exactly what I did. The people that were there last night seemed like they were having a great time too. I remember looking up every so often and everybody was dancing, so that's a good sign.

I'm happy with what I remember from last night. It was definately great to be playing out again. I can't wait til next time!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm also looking forward to this weekend. I'll be heading out to Toronto for Ultraspin Nine at The Guvernment on Saturday night. We've been planning this party for over a month now. I haven't been to a huge party like this in a while so it should be a great time! Hope to see you all there!
