"I Want You"

The Soldiers of Sound Breaks/Jungle party on Friday night was amazing. The place was packed, and the croud was having a ball!

My feet were super sore from dancing all night! Great music, great times!

I'm really proud of the guys who put this party together. These guys are definately doing a great job with rejuvinating the London Scene. I wasn't able to make it out Saturday however, so if if you're reading this and was able to make it, let me know how it went.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So there's good and bad news again.

Bad news always should come first.

I have an eye infectin and might not be able to play my set tomorrow night. I'll do my best to make it out but I definately don't want to spread the infection. We'll have to see tomorrow. I'll post it if I'm not going to make it, otherwise I'll be there with a fresh set all ready to go!

Now for the good news.

The artwork for my website is finished. The pictures are on their way. And since I haven't been to work lately it's given me some time to put together a wicked set for recording and also some sketches for my website. I can't wait!

djwendylaw.com countdown: 2.5 weeks.

Feel free to e-mail any questions or comments to info@djwendylaw.com as well.

I'll keep you all posted.

Time's Running Out!

3 and a half weeks til deadline. If I'm not done everything by the time I take off for Hong Kong, I'll be really disappointed in myself.

I never thought I worked well under pressure. That is until I started djing.

I mean, who goes out there and charges 2 turntables, a mixer, speakers, a subwoofer and headphones on two different credit cards a mere 4 days after touching a record for their first time?

Who darts into a house, that was just broken into, just to make sure their one-week-old gear hadn't been stolen?

Who drives two hours to the closest genre-suitable record shop every couple weeks just to check out what's fresh? (Online samples don't do any justice)

Who gives up Green Day tickets for the slight chance of getting a gig?

Who works 10 hours talking on the phone to bitchy customers, then goes straight to the studio and works for another 8 hours, only to go home, get a few hours of sleep, get up and do it all over again for a week straight?

I do. And I'd do it all again.

Why, you ask? Because I've never been so sure of, or wanted anything this bad in my entire life.

I guess we'll see...

Funny how the eagerness to achieve your desires can be measured by the prominence of your lack of judgement.

Photo Shoot Shots and the Blotched Set

There's good news and there's bad news. I'll give you the bad news first.

I didn't record a proper set. For some reason I was not feeling it tonight. I think I put way too much pressure on myself to make the set perfect. I need to do some yoga before I try to record next time.

But that's enough of that.

Now for the good news. I just got sent a few pics from the photo shoot, and I am definately impressed with this photographers work. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves...

This last one's my favorite. I see some photoshop work has already been done with these bad boys because they are definately flawless and I am definately not...

These are only a few of the hundreds of pictures taken on Wednesday night. They're still pretty raw and need to be touched up some more.

Anyways, I'd love to hear what you think and if there's anything you'd suggest to make these pics even better! I'll probably have another shoot in about a month, so any comments or suggestions would definately help!

DJ Photo Shoot

I had my photo shoot yesterday at the JamSpot Productions studio. I'll be officially recording tonight. I wasn't able to record a proper set last night since I had to pose for the photographer. I'll be able to concentrate better tonight and hopefully have a decent demo cd finished. I can't wait!

I've also registered the djwendylaw.com domain today. I can't wait to have the material to put on the site.

I have to give a huge shout out to Rob who hooked me up with Luigi (the photographer) last night. He's also going to help me fix up the pictures so that they look great for the website. So thank-you thank-you THANK-YOU for doing that for me!

I also spoke to the artist who's working on the artwork for the site. He said he'll be finished the artwork by the end of this month, so that's really exciting as well.

My goal is to have the site launched by the time I leave for Hong Kong on February 18th. YES, that's right, I'm going to Hong Kong and am hopefully going to make some international contacts baby yeah!

I'm booked from 11:00-12:00 on February 1st at Spotlight, so hopefully I'll see you all out! They've been working on a flyer for the evening so I'll have that up as soon as I get a copy.

So things are definately on their way. I just hope I don't mess up the recording tonight.

Wish me luck!

The Recording Studio

Against my will I went to a friends work party tonight. I was not planning on staying for very long, but I knew there was a reason I needed to go there. To keep things short and simple, this is what I wrote to a friend on msn the moment I got home:

Wendy Law says:
You'll never guess what...

Wendy Law says:
I knew I went to the studio for a reason...

Wendy Law says:
I met these guys again (aparently for the second time and they remember me as the 'cop' from the halloween party) that have a recording studio...

Wendy Law says:
where I'm going on Wednesday night to record a set...

Wendy Law says:
It just so happens that I'll be getting my hair done on Wednesday morning for a photo shoot that I had scheduled that night anyways, so the photo shoot is going to be in the studio...

Wendy Law says:
Which everything is definately back on track now...

--------------------------------------------------------------

This Chinese Calendar year is supposed to be the year of the 'Dog'. It's supposed to be my lucky year according to my 'peeps' (haha).

We'll see what this year brings I guess, I'm just looking forward to Wednesday...YAY!

All Work and No Play make Wendy Law a SUPERSTAR DJ!!!

So I have my computer now. All I need are the programs. And since any extra funding TD decides to give me goes towards records, I'll have to mooch some programs from friends and illegal internet sites.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get ahead in this world.

I have a photo shoot coming up for pictures for my website.

I have an artist working on the artwork for the site.

I even have one of my best friends helping me with the web design.

Everything seems to be on it's way. Which is good seeings how I only have 6 more months to build some sort of 'DJ status'.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

6 more months until I go back to school and still the inevitable question still lurks above me...

"Can I do this? Am I going to have the discipline and concentration it takes to go back?"

I am feeling a huge urge to learn new things lately. But not 'school-type' things. Fun things. Active things.

"Am I done taking a break from school yet? Or am I needing yet another year of pure pleasure?"

But then I remind myself for the umpteenth time...

You have to learn something to get somewhere in this life. The faster I learn something, the faster I get where I want to be. I was trying to fast-track the process of growing up. So now I can't move forward without taking a couple steps back and doing things right for a change.

In not so many words: SUCK IT UP and go back to school Wendy.

Mark the Mechanic's Birthday tonight!

It's Mark's birthday tonight at Spotlight. There's going to be a breaks party there tonight. I'm not sure who's spinning, but I'm sure it'll be great! I'm going to see about playing a short set next Wednesday. I'll let you all know if it works out.

Still haven't switched computers with my dad. I need to get that sorted real soon so I can start downloading music and programs to make music with.

The holidays put a huge pause on everything for me. I have so much to do to catch up on life.

I've made it a goal of mine to be in BC by July 1st weekend, Canada Day! There's a start date on July 3rd for my program so it works out perfectly. Plus, my lease for the apartment ends in June, so I won't have to find another tennant or apartment.

What I really have to concentrate on is making a name for myself, and a super dope demo cd to bring with me to BC. I'll have to work a part time job on the weekends to make ends meet. So what I'm really hoping for is a Fri and/or Sat residency in a club downtown Vancouver.

I keep saying this but I REALLY have to get my ass in gear now. I only have 6 months left!

As always, I'm in a rush. A rush to grow up, a rush to get shit done, and a rush to get the hell outta here!
